I don’t even know where to begin. I have written couple articles how Japan inspires me. This round I will do something else and different. Let me start off by saying that I love watching travel videos on YouTube of American expats who travel to Europe or Asia and explain how they like it, what they hate about it particular country they are visiting or moving to on long basis.

By now you must know by now I am from Poland. It always amazed me, why people what to move there? Some would think it is exotic and unique country. I love hearing how positive they feel about their decision their move, wether it’s for education, work or for love. I guess the same goes for America. I love American life, and this year, October 2021 will be a mark of 20 years living in America. My reason for a move was medical. I have a good job, good friends and I was blessed that I was attending public school that was one of the best in the state of Connecticut. For about a year, I was at one of the worst. As I got older, I started to count my blessings. And how America is awesome.

When I am on YouTube I watch how foreigners move to America and describe cultural values and what shocked them. Just pure chance I found one of the videos that was of a young North Korean who defected few years ago through China and how she did it, finally settling in South Korea.

Few weeks ago I was scrolling through the news headlines and I seen a headline with a picture of a North Korean girl giving a statement on Fox News. I very rarely watch Fox News to be honest. I clicked on the link and I say to myself that this girl is very familiar from a Journeyman Pictures channel from six years ago on YouTube which I have seen. Then I started to read the article. Article was about the wake culture and how tyranny it is effecting American society. After I read the article I rewatched that particular video. I started to read the book titled In Order To Live by Yeonmi Park.

I have no idea where even to begin. I could not even imagine the emotional horror of a roller coaster must of ben for Yeonmi. Bribing authorities to cross the border with China, being sold as a slave, seeing your own mother getting violated in the cruel way imaginable and losing father to cancer. At the moment I am in the middle of the book at the moment. I have almost cried how close bond Yeonmi has with her family and how heartfelt many moments were..

In 2014 Yeonmi moved to New York City and currently lives in Chicago. From another foreigner to another all I can say, Welcome to America! Yeonmi Park is a true inspiration and more American than most. I recommend this fascinating read, because many people don’t know many people seek happiness else where and what they will do to find it.

If you like stories about family and a fight for a better life, I hope you will find this book interesting and inspirational. I am going to write a little bit more detailed article when I will be finished with this fascinating read.
