I have written about my favorite anime already, but this time I am taking a different path with this article. And probably will be the short as well. Every person both young and old loves cartoons. In Poland, and I think the rest of eastern Europe on the local stations (TVP1 in particular) there was a segment of cartoons that started at 7PM and finished at 8PM with evening news. Much like your mom and dad read you a book before you fell asleep this one hour segment was called Dobranocka or Wieczorynka. Simply translating Goodnight Cartoon. And each day there was a different one. One day you could catch shows like The Adventures Of Whine The Pooh, the other The Smurfs and so on. And every once in a while television stations would air something different.

Each day there was something different. And I was so immersed in these awesome lovely cartoons that one hour segment felt much longer. My mom rememberers her Goodnight Cartoons from her childhood. Sadly Goodnight Cartoons are no longer aired, although you can find some on forums and sites like YouTube.

Since couple of years, now the local TV stations, decided that if children are streaming cartoons of the internet on their devices therefore is no need to be airing them. But this extremely entertaining segment for kids was airing since 1950's. And to me that is a very long time.

In Poland every cartoon is dubbed. I knew that Walt Disney was American since I was a baby, Disney were movies translated to Polish are done by professional actors. I also knew that Looney Tunes were from United States. But over recent years I was reminiscing about what I used to watch in the evening when I was like 6, 7 or 8 years old. Here are two cartoons I had no idea they where Japanese.

1.) Moomins- Moomin are hippopotamus look-a-like trolls from children’s stories from Finland. The original stories where written by children’s book author Tove Jansson. Moomins live in a large valley. They go on adventures and live quiet, yet exciting life. Moomins adventures show discovering various magical places, objects and creatures. These trolls also teach us the value of friendship, respect and wise decision making.

2.) Adventures Of Maya The Bee- Maya is a little honey bee who lives in a forest and collects nectar and delivers it back to the hive. Maya is very young and naive. She has very cheerful attitude, friendly and she always want to have fun. Maya always gets an attitude when, she wants to be taken seriously and defensive when she is called small. Maya is very courageous bee and she will stand up for her friends even though to her diminutive size. Sometimes Maya gets into trouble and needs rescuing, but she finds a way out and outsmart a villain. Maya is originally a German children’s novel by Waldemar Bonsels. Many people my age living in Poland did not realize either that this lovely cartoon was from Japan.

Japan is the powerhouse of cartoon industry. When Japan gets their hands on something from another country and adapts the stories into anime, you know it is going to be good. If you thought that anime is bloody, violent or over risqué at times, you are over exaggerating. Anime has cartoons for both kids and adults alike. I would like you to read my first part of my favorite anime.

In conclusion there are a handful of anime I have not watched. And for people who are new to anime, anime is short word for animation. My guess Japanese population would consider Family Guy, The Simpsons and other cartoons as anime. I don't know, I would like to know. Manga are comic books, and many of them were adopted into anime. And there is one particular genre of anime that has no place on my page.
