There is something I have realized about something about Thomas The Tank Engine over many years of watching the cartoon. Thomas is a British animated series that is beloved by many children all over the world. Even some adults watch the show. Let me start of by the origins of the stories. The stories were created and told by Wilber Awdry, a father for his sick son. Eventually the books were adapted for television. The television show is going strong along side specials that last, maybe one to one and half hour long features.

Long story short and let me begin by saying that there is something I have wondered for many years is, why the engine aways are blamed for doing something wrong? Every character has a face, they can speak, human like emotions and have a mind of their own. But they need to have an operator in order to move and go places. Every character goes on adventures or gets into situations they later regret, in real life this would be acceptable. For my stance, if I was a railroad owner I would blame the conductor. Unlike many characters, there is one character who always goofs off, and others are complete bullies.

For a train enthusiast, I have read and watched news clips that many rail disasters are either caused by negligence and operator error. The Fat Controller who is one of main characters is owner and the master of the railroad always punishes the engines for not going for repairs, pulling the bigger load they should hauling or running late. Why? And the operators don’t get into trouble at all. It is very strange to me that the conductors don't get any disciplinary actions. But hey…, it is just a kids show.

With the new season approaching, "the animated series", I have seen previews and I prefer the episodes from the 1980' and 1990's and the 3D CGI era. So ending this short entry, Thomas The Tank Engine is a quirky show with tons of merchandise that now is heavy marketed, and honestly the magic of the olden days of Thomas The Tank Engine is gone. I might write an entry how heavy marketing can ruin things we love.
