Best Summer Ever (2004)

November 29, 2016

Summer is the best part of anyone's life. As a kid it's the best season of the year ever. While your parents are working you are having time of your life. I happen to be in once summer camp that is the best in the world. It was the summer of 2004. And very sweet and memorable…

Hole In The Wall Gang Camp is a camp for kids and teens who are battling cancer and other diseases. The vision of this adventure was by actor Paul Newman, that takes children's  mind of the hospital visits and have fun. And I happen to be there. Soon the school year ended my mom drove me to Ashford CT where was the camp.

At first I was not sure if I wanted to go or stay. Nevertheless  I have stayed for the whole week!! There were so many activities to do that I did not feel homesick at all. I loved my councilors and new friends. One camp volunteer is from Texas. Very sweet lady named Sherry Talley. And she travels to Connecticut every year to be with the campers.

We went fishing, slept in the tent one night and zip line. I went on it and it was great thrill climbing up the big wall and zipping down.  And here is the picture of my group. (Guess where I am? I'll give you a hint. Right in the middle). I wish I could stay there entire summer…! The sad thing was that I had turned fifteen years old that year and it was first and last time I was there.

The rest of that summer was a little quiet and too peaceful. The sad thing is there is a huge waiting list because many kids from Massachusetts, New Jersey and other states want to attend as well. If I took survey asking one million kids from the entire North East, if they want to stay one week in  a camp with loving people that has a lake, forest, archery, zip line  and log cabins, all of them would say yes.

I was digging around my dresser and found my little contact book with best wishes and addresses from over ten years ago. Though I don't know if they are current but it would be nice to reconnect with old friends to see where they are and what they had been up to and would love to reconnect, I miss them and think about them. I always love to reminisce my childhood.

In the other events, after I graduated high school in 2008, I got reunited with one of my old campers in a place that I did not expect, vocational program that we attended.
